As I discuss today on Frontpage. Mark Perry's Foreign Policy article on supposed Israeli use of Azeri bases may be a concoction by an anti-Israeli writer, rather than a leak from Washington. Even if so, there have been enough such leaks and statements to give a clear message that Washington wants Jerusalem to cool it. That leaves Jerusalem hanging by a thread as Iran nears the "zone of immunity" and another round of useless and time-consuming big-power talks with Iran are supposed to start in mid-April, let alone how long they'll drag out.
Meanwhile IDF officials confirm Defense Minister Barak's assessment that retaliation against an Israeli strike, on the part of Iran and its allies, would--while no picnic--not have anything close to catastrophic consequences for Israel. And the IDF officials predict somewhat less damage and losses than Barak suggested.
