Nothing could be more simple or logical, right? You're making it a major endeavor of international diplomacy to try and get a sovereign Palestinian state established in the West Bank, part of Jerusalem, and Gaza. Would it be a peaceful state that lives quietly beside Israel, or one that attacks it? If the latter, how would it make anything better, or justify the huge efforts that went into creating it? And as for finding out what Palestinian attitudes are, and are likely to be once such a state is established, what better approach do we have than conducting a thorough, professional poll?
